Substância utilizada pelo atleta Magno Nazaret é o princípio ativo mais presente em remédios de emagrecimento (Plenty, Reductil, Meridia e Sibutral);  adaptado de Gentil, 2002: “Sua função esperada é a perda de peso, conseguida através da inibição da recaptação de serotonina e de noradrenalina (HANSEN et al, 1999, STOCK et al, 1997). A sibutramina deve ser usada simultaneamente com exercícios e alimentação adequada, e somente quando dietas e atividades físicas não produzirem os resultados desejados.

A noradrenalina é um hormônio liberado pela supra-renal e serve também como precursor da adrenalina, tendo como principais efeitos: elevação do metabolismo, aumento da freqüência cardíaca e da pressão arterial. Ao evitar a recaptação da noradrenalina na fenda sináptica a sibutramina potencializa os efeitos deste hormônio, aumentando o gasto energético (HANSEN et al, 1998; WALSH et al, 1999).

A serotonina é um neutrotransmissor produzido no cérebro a partir do aminoácido triptofano, atuando como vasoconstritor, estimulador da musculatura lisa (presente nos órgãos), regulador do sono, do apetite e do humor. Ao inibir a recaptação da serotonina, aumenta-se sua concentração, diminuindo a ansiedade e aumentando a saciedade (CHAPELOT et al, 2000).

Ou seja, a sibutramina atua através de dois mecanismos: aumento do gasto energético e diminuição do apetite.

Efeitos colaterais

Os efeitos colaterais mais comuns encontrados nos estudos foram: secura na boca, pressão alta, fadiga, constipação, taquicardia, anorexia, dores de cabeça e insônia. (RICHTER, 1999; FANGHANEL et al, 2000; LUQUE et al, 1999; JAMES et al, 2000; BRAY et al, 1999, CUELLAR et al, 2000; SCHUH et al, 2000)

Conclusão

Apesar de muito usada e prescrita por médicos e pseudoespecialistas a sibutramina tem seus efeitos colaterais e suas limitações. Lembre-se que ela só deve ser usada nos casos onde dietas e atividades físicas não surtiram efeito e que esta substância tem sua indicação terapêutica e foi testada em grupo restrito de pacientes: os obesos. Ou seja, se você deseja apenas perder pequenas quantidades de gordura para melhorar seu visual em trajes de banho ou roupas decotadas, eu não recomendaria o uso desta substância”.
